Talk 1: 210 x 297 - UX Design for the Physical World - Rebecca Platt
We know the importance of UX, and there is a lot of information out there about good design principles - when on a digital screen. But what about one of the most prevalent interfaces that we all encounter? Whether it's the contract for your mortgage or bills from suppliers, printed documents are still one of the major ways in which we interact with our users. This talk covers design issues and tips unique to the UX of the physical printed world.
(210 x 297 are the dimensions of an A4 page in mm.)

Talk 2: Avoiding DNS Pain - Kieran Jacobsen
In every organisation DNS is a critical system, but it rarely gets the attention that it deserves. We rely on DNS for the smooth operation of our businesses; if your customers can’t reach your website or email you, then your business is effectively cut-off.

Organisations will keep disaster recovery plans and business continuity procedures for their corporate websites, mail servers and internal systems; but how many of these plans and procedures include DNS?

Over the past few years, attacks against DNS have been on the rise. These attacks may be direct attacks against DNS server software; but they can also come from compromised credentials or DNS zone misconfigurations such as dangling DNS entries.

In this session, I am going to walk through performing a DNS maturity assessment and how you can improve the management of DNS with tools like DNSControl.

Talk 3: DevOps Pitfalls, Beyond The Technology - Emad Alashi
Throughout the past years, the technology part of DevOps has been discussed fairly a lot: branching strategy, release pipelines, automation, integration, ...etc. But until this day, organisations are still struggling with the processes, human interactions, team structures, budgeting, and cultural changes in embracing DevOps.

In this lighting talk, we will shed the light on some common challenges and pitfalls when Introducing DevOps in organisations that are beyond the technology, and discuss some of the suggestions on how to tackle these challenges.

Talk 4: Diamonds are forever, so are URLs - Wing Ho
Imagine putting up signage saying “Puppies this way, just around the corner”. You follow that sign. Right as you turn the corner, you’re met with a 404 mole rat instead. A rush of realisation, disappointment, anger, ensures.

URLs are forever. Or so they should be. This is the experience you subject your users to, when links aren’t given the love they need. I’ll show you how you could be thinking about your app/website URLs and routes when you are crafting them, and strategies on how to migrate old URLs rather than leaving your users in disarray.

She works to ensure there is a common, clear understanding for all users of her systems, as shown by the fact she has been published three times (including in two encyclopaedias), talking about UML. When not working, Rebecca can be found testing other companies products and interfaces (aka, playing video games).
